On Thursday, January 8, we welcomed two capybaras from the Buenos Aires Ecopark to the Reserve, where they are now beginning a new chapter in their lives in a natural and protected environment.
Both animals were rescued from public roads in the Núñez neighborhood of Buenos Aires thanks to the intervention of the city’s Civil Defense and Fire Department.
One of them was found by a neighbor on November 3, trapped in a sewer at 1600 Vedia, in very poor condition. The other entered the Ecopark on November 19, after being found in the area of Av. del Libertador and Comodoro Rivadavia.
After the rescue, the two capybaras underwent a process of veterinary evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation at the Ecopark until it was confirmed that they were fit to be transferred and released.
Finally, on January 8, they arrived at the El Potrero Reserve and were released into the pre-release enclosure, in a wetland area, the ideal environment for them to recover their natural behaviors and continue their lives in freedom.
These types of actions reflect the importance of joint efforts between institutions to respond to conflicts between wildlife and the city, always prioritizing animal welfare and conservation.
