Back to the wetland

Last Monday, we welcomed two male capybaras to the Reserve from the Buenos Aires Ecopark, ready for immediate release.
Both animals had been rescued by Civil Defense personnel in various urban areas of the city of Buenos Aires and transferred to the Ecopark between January and February. One of them was found in the Aeroparque area, while the other was found in the Devoto neighborhood; in both cases, they were far from their natural habitats and in environments unsuitable for their well-being.

During their stay at the Ecoparque, the capybaras were evaluated and treated by the veterinary team. In one case, an injury was detected on one of its legs, which was successfully treated without major complications.
Once recovered, both capybaras were transferred to the El Potrero Reserve, where they were released into an environment suitable for their species. Upon opening the transport crates, the animals quickly responded to their natural instincts, heading toward the wetland.

Such actions underscore the importance of coordinated efforts among institutions for wildlife conservation and highlight the need to respect the place each species occupies in its ecosystem.

We at El Potrero Reserve would like to thank the Buenos Aires Ecopark for the trust they have placed in us, which allows these efforts to achieve their most important goal: the return of the animals to life in the wild.
