On Friday, November 29, the third Extramuros Match of the Penal Unit No. 9 (UPN9) rugby team took place. After completing the necessary permits, 15 inmates who train regularly participated in the match, played on the Club Central Entrerriano field.
This activity is part of the social inclusion project that Reserva El Potrero has been promoting since 2019 together with the Espartanos Foundation, with the aim of supporting processes of personal transformation and reintegration through sports, teamwork, and spiritual guidance.
The match pitted a team from the local club against Los Caranchos, the team made up of inmates from UPN9. The day passed without incident and in an atmosphere of respect and camaraderie.
At the end of the game, the traditional third half took place, attended by inmates’ families, prison service staff, and members of the Pastoral Care team, who actively support this initiative. During the gathering, sandwiches made with meat donated by Reserva El Potrero were shared, along with sweets provided by the Pastoral Care team. This event helped to strengthen bonds and celebrate the commitment of all those involved.
Although the match symbolically marked the end of the sporting year, training will continue throughout December, with two practices per week. At the same time, the team is working on the construction of a new field in a space specially allocated for this purpose. To move forward with the work, sand is needed to level and prepare the ground, a task that will be carried out by the players themselves together with their teachers once the material has been obtained.
The day was a positive experience and reaffirmed the social, sporting, and human value of this project, which continues to grow thanks to the joint efforts of inmates, institutions, and the community.
