The impulse to create

ART & CONSERVATION

THE IMPULSE TO CREATE

At Legado Nicolás García Uriburu, we work to preserve and promote his artistic legacy. We safeguard his collection, manage his work integrally, and process his documentary archive in order to keep his message alive and contribute to the reflection on art and ecology.

Uriburu’s work challenged the paradigms of his time and remains urgent today. As early as the 1970s, he expressed his concern about the antagonism between civilization and nature, a tension that today defines the Anthropocene. His vision of a Latin America united by nature, rivers, and shared identity takes on new life in Utopía del Sur, transcending borders and projecting itself into the future.

We believe in the power of art as an engine of change and a space for shared values. That is why we develop programs that intertwine art and nature, connecting communities through educational exchange. Our commitment is to revalue his archive and his thinking, guided by a collective ecological responsibility and a regenerative vision.

As he wrote in his Portfolio Manifesto (1973): “The artwork has ceased to have an autonomous form. The artwork takes on the form of nature: fluid, dynamic. Its place is in nature.”

Inspired by this concept, we seek to build bridges that unite distances, fostering learning, creativity, and connection between people and their environment. Our mission is to bring this legacy to life so that, together, we can imagine a world that is more just in every way.
