At Utopía del Sur, we would like to share an update on the Nicolás García Uriburu Legacy Archive, which we began processing in 2024. Following a process of observation, assessment, and identification, the archive is now in the midst of having its covers replaced and being digitized.
We are sharing the first installment of the Digitization Log, which we began keeping once all the materials were loaded into the scanning equipment: sketches, the artist’s writings, photographs, personal and professional correspondence, and a unique collection: the annual albums in which Nicolás, in an extraordinary way, compiled the entire visual history of his career. A remarkable sense of archival responsibility.
The complete process of digitizing an album:
Clean the surfaces and number the pages; digitize each cover and each full page, keeping all information in context at all times, without peeling off or removing anything, and without changing the position or location of any items; preserve everything exactly as we received it and place it in its new cover, made of neutral medical-grade paper, inside an acid-free box.
The project is advised by Cintia Mezza, a specialist in the management of collections and archival holdings focused on the arts. Together with Catalina Fabbri, coordinator of the NGU Legacy, and in partnership with the Bunge y Born Archive of the Bunge y Born Foundation for the digitization of the documents, this process is being carried out in stages.
The project is being carried out by a professional team consisting of Mariela Ceva, Eugenio Torres Flawiá, Paola Toriano, and Florencia Raimondo.
