As part of the Saffron-cowled blackbird monitoring project, which aims to understand the species’ movements outside the breeding season, monitoring activities are continuing in the south of Entre Ríos.
During the spring campaign, some individuals were ringed and fitted with transmitters, enabling their presence to be recorded via receivers installed at various points across the area.
In this context, a team from Aves Argentinas, coordinated by Rocío Lapido, visited the El Potrero Reserve following several days of monitoring in neighbouring fields.
With the assistance of Daniel Ávalo, a member of the reserve’s team, the receiver was re-installed in the area, successfully picking up signals from two previously tagged individuals. These records provide relevant information on habitat use during the winter.
In addition, a census of the species was carried out, recording approximately 60 individuals within the reserve area, a significant figure for population monitoring.
This work forms part of a coordinated effort between organisations and institutions dedicated to conservation, which aims to generate key knowledge for the protection of the Saffron-cowled blackbird, a threatened species in the region.
