Rural Tourism and Ecotourism: A Training Experience at the El Potrero Reserve

On Tuesday, September 29, 2026, we welcomed teachers and students from the Rural Tourism Technical Program at the Faculty of Agronomy of the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) to the El Potrero Reserve as part of a training session focused on ecotourism and learning about nature destinations.

The activity also included a visit to the Termas Guaychú Private Nature Reserve. In the morning, the group toured various areas of the reserve with Facundo Caraballo, and in the afternoon, they arrived at El Potrero, where they were welcomed by Ladislao Földesi.

During the tour of the reserve, Ladislao shared his knowledge with the students about the habitats, biodiversity, and characteristics of the area, while also introducing them to the conservation work being carried out at El Potrero.

For those studying rural tourism, these experiences provide firsthand insight into areas that can become nature tourism destinations and help them understand the importance of the land, its habitats, and its biodiversity when developing tourism proposals.

Direct contact with these places and the people who work there also helps them discover how knowledge of the environment can enrich the experience of visitors.

AN EXPERIENCE TO PUT INTO PRACTICE

Based on this field trip, the students will conduct a rapid assessment of each destination and select a strategic recommendation, putting into practice the tools and knowledge acquired during their training.

In this way, the visit does not end with the tour: it also becomes an opportunity for analysis and professional learning, in which students can observe the specific challenges and opportunities presented by rural and nature tourism destinations.

We at El Potrero Reserve would like to thank professors Eduardo Haene, María Eugenia Blanco, and Paulo Lerman Clemente for proposing this initiative and for including us in this educational experience.

And a special thank you to Eduardo Haene, who shared some of the visit’s objectives and the perspective guiding this experience in the video accompanying this news item.

We also thank all the students for their interest, participation, and willingness to learn about the Reserve and our work.
